Let's Move...

So I have been a blogger now for a few months, but I am not able to do some different kind of stuff. So I have moved again. Hopefully this will be the last move.

Reflectors...

So I realize that we are reflectors of God's love to the world. How are we doing at that? Can we blame the world for having bad thoughts about our God because of our actions? Are we at a place where his name and renown is truly the desire of our hearts? This is not a "jam for the lamb" kind of thing. There is no cornball-ness involved here. There are people groups all over the world who have not heard of Jesus, yet they call out to the sun, rain, and earth. Are these the ones that God calls us to share his name with? Are they the ones that He refers to when He says, "That THEY may know." This is the real deal. Consider and reply.

so we finally made it back...

ok as promised here are the details to our adventure. Please get ready for a long story. I hate reading long posts on blogs, but a short one would not do justice.
so we are at the airport in Guatemala City watching our plane getting towed in due to a fire that started in the landing gear, when all of the sudden it dawned on me that our flight was next on this thing. The panic started. I've seen final destination 1, 2, and 3 and I wasn't going out like that! Well lucky for us the pilots were unable to fly due to time constraints so our flight was cancelled. So we go to the ticketing counter where we start rebooking all 30 tickets. Thanks for the help Wu!! The oh-so kind airline offers us vouchers for a really nice hotel, with a buffet. We were stoked! The shuttle to the hotel was taking too long with all 200 people that were assigned to the same hotel..hint, hint. My friend Luis decides to get us all cabs to the hotel. it sounded like a great idea. now please realize that I am giving only the cat. 5 details. Along with every major detail comes several almost major details that will not get mentioned due to my poor typing skills. Anyway, we leave the airport with a headcount of 27. Not good. After arriving at the hotel, I find the missing three, who will remain nameless (only because I have no idea who they were). So this wonderful hotel runs out of rooms and will not allow us to partake of their wonderful buffet. It is now about 9.30pm. We have not eaten since breakfast. We are starting to lose all sense of reality. Fatigue sets in. My team is restless. Well, we find the extremely nice on-duty manager (her first night on duty), and the deal making starts. She ends up setting us up in the Westin which is really nice, oh yes! We get the executive suites for the deluxe price. So now I have a place for all to sleep however our stomachs were not too happy. So like any other God fearing man would do, I sent a team to the only open restaurant on the block, Hooters!! We enjoy some fine dining, wing style, in one of the rooms. Now don't forget, there are a lot of details left out. We finally get to sleep around midnight. After 3 beautiful hours of sleep in the "Heavenly Beds", we bolt out the door to find Kenneth, our trip coordinator, with a school bus waiting to take us to the airport. However, the cabbies from the night before were asked to come back and get us at 4am so we could get a jump on everyone else leaving for the airport. They were not too happy that we had arranged other means of transportation. I was ready to duke it out with all of them. Luis had my back, we were ready to die! After we paid them off, we left for the airport. We finally leave Guatemala City and arrive in Miami, where a certain airline that had royaly messed us up was going to have 3, 15 passenger vans waiting on us. See, they booked us on a flight from Guat, to Miami to Tampa to Ft. Myers, knowing that the flight from Tampa to FM was overbooked by 6 seats already. That's great service!! Anyway, the vans were nowhere to be found! We had to rent minivans from Ricardo the van nazi who was trying to raise the price on us. DIRTY!! We finally get 4 vans reserved so off we go to the lot to pick out our ride home. Little did we know that this was a first come first serve lot. All of the keys were in the door and whoever got there first gets that car. I saw a kid running for one of the vans...so I sprinted. I pulled the keys out of the door and locked it down. I looked at the kid and told him in Christian love, "You don't want to do this today son". I think he got the point. So he runs for the other van, I motioned for Brad to get the keys. I had my men all over that lot. Well the kid's dad gets all fired up and tries to get the keys from Brad. I gave Brad the order to not hand over the keys to this man, infidel. Once again, I was ready to roll up the sleeves and pull out "All Day and All Night". After considering the circumstance, Brad handed over the keys disregarding a direct order. SO then we waited for the other vans to be cleaned and went back to get the team to go home. And so here we are, 5 days removed from that horrific day, that if not for the bravery of a few men, we might have lost some of our team. To the ones who suffered for Jesus on day 10 and 11, God bless you all. To the ones who enjoyed peanuts and coke on the first class flight out, along with their own beds, and easy flights, may you be forever grateful that some gave all! Can you hear the music playing...May the country of Guatemala never forget the day the Americans came!! Gotta go, I think I need to go change a stinky diaper!

Glad to be home...

God is great! Not just today, but at all times. We had a great time in Guatemala allowing God to shape and mold us as He pleased. We were able to minister to over 10,000 people. It seems so unreal and overwhelming that God used us to see that many people. Several hundred of them accepted Christ for the first time. For all things we give God His glory.

The next several blogs will be recapping the last 2 weeks. We had a lot of events that I am sure will make for a great read.

Here we go again...

How exciting it is to join God in the work he is doing!! It's always neat to see what God is up to in my area, but also cool to know that He is changing lives all over the world. We are getting ready to go back to Guatemala City, Guatemala on Thursday. We have several different areas of ministry that we will be conducting while down there. We have clowns, (which is always a hit), puppets, dramas, construction, man all kinds of things.
Here's how you can pray for us:
-Safety when traveling
-Servant's hearts
-Power of the Holy Spirit to guide us
-Unity in our college and career group
-God's hand to move in the hearts of Guatemalans
-Endurance and continued faithfulness for Kenneth and Diana-our contacts there...view their blog...
-Language barriers will not hold back the word of God.

More updates to come later.

Latest movie...

Transformers.....check it out! This movie was great. Action the whole way through. I always get a little leary about "toys turn movie" movies, but I was well pleased. Other great shows similar in nature... GI Joe Iraqi Freedom, Pimp my Power Wheel, Star Wars...wait...ok, so you get the point. Anyway, Transformers was well worth the 10 bucks!

Happy 4th of July...

Another year of fun in the sun with lots of friends.
We spent the afternoon with several families and staff from our church today. The Millers were great hosts. The kids were able to play outside until the lightning started to strike a few feet from the water slide! Being far from "home" and childhood friends is hard, but God always fills voids in our lives for us. We had a great time today and we are so grateful for friends here in Fort Myers!

On my way...

So my wife decided that she would lose a few pounds. I think she is already drop dead gorgeous, but I told her I would diet with her. I don't know what I was thinking. I actually lost 7 pounds already. Well, I lost the weight then went out of town for a camp in Panama City with one on my best friends Ric Blazi. One thing about Ric's camp is that they eat good. We went to great restaurants and ate like kings. So anyway, I gained some of the weight back. However, I am doing good with dropping it off again. My goal is to get to around 190. I have not weighed under 200 pounds since like 1997. Weight watchers really works. I totally thought it was for girls, but I am sold on it. My clothes are already starting to fit different, which leads to my OCD, shopping.
So I hope you all enjoy your 4th tomorrow. Be sure not to overindulge!

Father's Day

I remember father's day growing up. my brother and I used to give my dad the cheesiest gifts. for some reason we thought that my dad would like the corny ties and cosby-like sweaters. well now that I am a father, I hope that my kids will not get me the same kind of bad gifts. my wife is always taking care of me. miles and gavin gave me the coolest card. I loved it. and for my gift, I get to pick out a pair of polarized sunglasses. now for those of you that know me, you know that I have a thing for accessories. So, I am thinking Oakleys or Arnettes for sunglasses, but if you have any suggestions, please let me know. You can play a huge part in my accessory OCD!

...

I wrestled with the title of this post so much that I decided to not have one. I have made some great friends here in Fort Myers. Some of them were only here for a short while, and some were here for a long time. I miss these guys very much. They are the kind of people that are driven and very passionate about leading people to Jesus. I am glad to know that they are willing to give up everything and follow God. They will go far in their ministries. Recently, my friend, Rusty, left our church to serve at another church. We did not start hanging out until just recently, but we are kindred spirits for sure. Rusty is by far one of the greatest AV technicians ever, but what made him awesome was that he saw how his ability to create a set, lighting, and sound could be used to draw people to God. That is taking what God has gifted you to do and using it for His glory. Rusty, my family misses you guys already. Create for Jesus.

dream session...

when my wife, Tammy, and I were engaged, we talked about our dreams. things like where we would wanted to vacation or live were often the topic. we would also talk of things like the number of children, what would you do with a million bucks, and what do you want to be when you get older. well that last question is always in my mind. the funny thing is I am older now and know exactly what I want to do and be. I want to be a part of a team of people that will stop at nothing to create a place where lost people can go to find Jesus. this is not a sunday school answer. I am being serious. i don't want to sound super spiritual, but we need to sense the urgency sometimes. what better joy is there in life than being part of someone's life and family being changed forever? sometimes when I look around, I am amazed at what God is doing. other times I look around and think,"what is going on?" have we gone astray at times? do we really not care about the main thing sometimes? how can we be given so much yet be so ungrateful? let me know your thoughts or dreams.

How do you...?

I love analogies. I am a simpleton so I like things pretty easy to "get". I was recently looking for a new coffee maker with a timer on it so we could wake to the smell of coffee. You know, the best part of waking up is Starbuck's Premium Roast in your cup! Anyways, I was talking to the guy at the afore mentioned establishment and he said that the filter that we choose in the coffee maker really makes a big difference.. For instance, if you use paper, it could potentially tear and cause grains to enter into the pot. Or it could be thick paper which causes the coffee to be very weak. so he presented me with the filter in the picture above. This will not let anything enter the pot that will taint the coffee. As I was thinking and trying to turn this into a teaching moment, it dawned on me, my filter in this world is Jesus. This filter above keeps things out of the pure, delicious coffee. When I make a decision, I place it into my filter which only allows the purest results, which will bring glory to Christ. What are you using to make decisions on a daily basis? Are you finding "grains" in your life? Do you use life itself or this world or even Dr.Phil and Oprah to answer the questions? Try Jesus. Pass everything through His word through prayer and enjoy the blessings!

just when you think you've heard it all...

Today, Hank, Diane, and myself were down at Coconut Point. We were working on a project for our Pastor. One of his upcoming sermons is on the existence of Satan. So our job was to interview people and see what kind of things we come up with. The question to the public was, "Does Satan exist and why?" I knew that we lived in an area where lost people were living, but I had no idea the amount of people who believe in some far out stuff. I thought that I was aware of lost people in my surroundings and that I knew how to communicate with people about spiritual matters. I need to brush up! Some of the answers were so far out that I thought surely people don't believe that! This makes me understand the importance of being in God's word and staying in touch with "lost" people. Answer after answer my heart was breaking for these people, but I did not know where to begin with getting them to see truth. I never thought that I could live in a place in America that is so godless and pagan. Some people would tell me that I need to get out from under the rock and wake up. I thought I was. If you were there, you would be just as shocked. I don't want to be one who just talks about being light. I want to be one who carries light into the darkness. If you are anything like me, you would now say, "oh yeah that's right, Gerald, You should be salt and light to the world." Then I would say to you, "What does that really mean?"

Get involved in a lost person's life. If you are a Christ follower, the banner across your chest screams LOVE.

Oh so refreshing!!

What a glorious day!! The new Starbucks has opened on the corner of Colonial and Fowler. Now I can choose which one I will go to so I can keep up the habit. Speaking of habit, what is it that they put in the delectable Iced White Chocolate Mocha that is so consuming? I think of nothing else when I am downing this cup of addiction. Oh well. Please feel free to stop in and get a Malloy special at any Starbucks. Get one for me when you go...it is always welcomed and appreciated!

Thirsty 07

well here I sit in the hotel room with my mind running like crazy. i just spent a half day listening to a couple of great teachers of the word of God. Louie and Francis are wonderful at taking scripture and allowing it to breathe. of course it is God's word and it breathes because of Him, but to have new light shed on an old story is great. God allowed us to hear from Him today. what an unbelievable experience! I would love to tell you more but translation is hard for me. I hear God's word being taught and I process. I tend to process for days until finally I get it. Not really "i get it" but God saying , "here it is".Translation, translation, translation!

Charlie Hall led worship earlier today. God allows him to be a leader of worshippers. God takes us on a journey of thought and pondering through Charlie. He does not sing the churchy anthems but instead he takes me to a place where it is me and God and no one else so that God can speak to my heart. I was there. He spoke to me. not out loud but very quietly and intentionally. this is very refreshing. i see why it is called Thirsty.

Much appreciation is due to the ones who God has called, but all glory goes to HIM.. He is the one I have come to see. He is the one that sets me free.

I know this is scattered at best but remember.....i'm still processing!

now that we are established...

i believe we are children of God here to glorify him in all things. that is my answer to the first ever question. however, that answer is loaded down. to be a child of someone, we carry history, and heritage. then there is the glorify part. how much harder can this be? as much as we try to follow God or think that we are beginning to understand, we seem to take some steps backwards, yet we should continue to rejoice. right? what??!! i like how paul puts it in phillipians:

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d] 20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

known as a child

so i decided to blog. a friend showed me the ropes so i thought, "what better way to talk to the world than through a blog". so let's go on a journey. a journey to places of significance, identity, worship, and last but not least, randomness.

we all have the need to teach and to learn. right now, i am a somewhat like a sponge. i want to learn or 'soak up' as much as possible. however, i do not want to keep it all in and become stagnant. so, let's teach and learn together.

the first question that we must ask ourselves and each other is 'who are we and why are we here?'

go ahead...feel free to answer.
